Fixed Right Click Context Menu Keeps Appearing in Windows 10/11

Some Windows users have reported strange issues. According to them, the right-click context menu keeps popping up randomly without pressing the right mouse click on their Windows PC. This problem is very annoying because it causes interference while working on the computer. The cause of this problem may be a software or hardware problem. In this article, we will look at some of the possible causes of this problem and discuss solutions to fix this problem.

Causes Right Click Context Menu Keeps Appearing in Windows 10/11

Before we start talking about how to fix this problem, first, let’s take a look at the possible causes of this problem. Right-click context menus may open randomly due to the following reasons.

  • Corrupt or out of date drivers: Drivers are important pieces of software that establish a communication link between the operating system and the hardware connected to the computer. If the drivers are corrupt or malfunctioning, then you will experience some kind of problem with the respective hardware on your system.
  • Physical buttons: You may know that we can open the right-click context menu by using a keyboard shortcut. If this key is stuck, then you will also have such a problem. I will talk about it in detail later in this article.
  • Some affected users have reported that the problem occurs due to a bloated battery. A bloated battery is the result of an uncontrolled current flow causing excessive heat. A bloated battery creates pressure on the trackpad which causes the trackpad to not function properly.
  • Hardware problems: Maybe your mouse or touchpad is not working. You can also try connecting your mouse to another USB port and check if this helps.

Now that we know the cause of this problem, let’s take a look at the solutions to get rid of it from your Windows 10 or Windows 11. Below, I will describe all of these fixes in detail.

1. Jalankan Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter

If you are facing hardware problems on your Windows device, then you can run Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter. This tool is designed to fix hardware related problems. To launch the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter, you will need to run the following command from the Command Prompt.

msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic

2. Update or Reinstall Your Mouse and Touchpad Drivers

As I explained earlier in this article, faulty device drivers are one of the causes of this problem. Therefore, I suggest you update your mouse and touchpad drivers. To do this, go to the Optional Updates page of Windows Update and install updates for your mouse or touchpad drivers if available. If this doesn’t help or if an update isn’t available there, reinstalling the mouse and touchpad drivers may fix the issue. For that, follow the steps below to do it.

  • Open Device Manager by pressing the button Win + X and select Device Manager.
  • In the Device Manager window, expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Then right click one by one on driver mouse and touchpad you and choose Uninstall device.
  • Now, your mouse and touchpad won’t work because you have uninstalled the driver.
  • Close all open windows by pressing the button Alt + F4. When you see the desktop, press the button again Alt + F4 to shut down your computer.
  • After shutting down your system, turn it back on your computer. Windows will install the missing device drivers automatically on restart.

Now, check if the problem reappears or not.

3. Disable Two-Finger Tap in Touchpad Settings

Laptop users may know that the right-click context menu can also be opened by tapping the touchpad with two fingers. Sometimes while working on a laptop, your clothes touch the trackpad so the right-click context menu pops up randomly. You can fix this problem by disabling Two-Finger Tap in Touchpad settings.

Follow the steps below to disable Two-finger tap in Touchpad settings.

  • Press the button Win + Rthen type control and press Enter to open Control Panel.
  • In the Control Panel window, change View by the Large/Small icons and select Mouse.
  • In the Mouse Properties window, select last tab which shows your touchpad. On my laptop, the name is ELAN.
  • Next, select None in section Two-Finger.
  • Then click Apply and OK to save your settings.

The instructions above are for HP notebooks. Instructions may vary for laptops from different brands. Now, check if the problem persists. If yes, try the next solution.

4. Check Your Keyboard Keys

You can also open the right-click context menu by pressing Shift+F10 keys. It’s possible that the Shift and F10 function keys on your laptop have problems. You can check it by launching On-Screen Keyboard. On-Screen Keyboard highlights the key you press. If when not pressing a key, it highlights the Shift and F10 keys, then your keyboard is causing the problem. To fix this problem, you can run the Keyboard Troubleshooter. Keyboard Troubleshooter will help you fix keyboard related problems.

Follow these steps to run the Keyboard Troubleshooter.

Di Windows 10:

  • Open Settings Windows by pressing the . key Win + I and select Update & Security in the Settings window.
  • Next click Troubleshoot in the left pane and in the right pane click Additional troubleshooters.
  • Scroll down and click Keyboard. Then click Run the troubleshooter.
  • Follow all the on-screen instructions to complete the repair process.

Di Windows 11:

  • Press the button Win + I to open Settings Windows.
  • In the Settings window, click System in the left pane and in the right pane click Troubleshoot.
  • On the next page click Other troubleshooters.
  • Next find Keyboard and click Run who is beside him.

5. Change Your Mouse

If none of the solutions above fix your problem, then your mouse may be faulty. To check, connect another mouse to your computer and see if the problem appears. If another mouse is not available, you can use your friend’s mouse for the same. If you find your mouse is damaged, then replace it with a new mouse.

That’s my article this time, hopefully it will be useful and help you in fixing the right-click context menu that keeps appearing on your Windows 10 or Windows 11.
